Traveling to Cuba

US citizens are the only people in the world not allowed to travel to Cuba. For several years, US policy had shifted to allow many people to visit Cuba legally as part of educational and religious groups. Now our government is imposing even tighter restrictions that include:

  • Severely limiting family visits;

  • Eliminating most educational-related travel;

  • Prohibiting musicians and athletes from playing in Cuba;

  • Canceling tourist licenses for travel agencies doing business with Cuba;

  • Banning the purchase of Cuban-made products.

Read more about the travel restrictions from The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) and the Latin America Working Group.

Go to the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) website for current government regulations on traveling to Cuba.

People who want to go to Cuba are encouraged to read the Center for Constitutional Right's "Know Before You Go" brochure.
