Restrictions Create Criminals
Marlene, 39
Activities director at nursing home
Miami, FL/Guantanamo
Marlene is a single mother of a young boy. Her only family, a 74 year old mother and a disabled sister, live in Cuba. Now that she and her son can only visit once every three years, her mother has had to postpone surgery because she has no one to help during her recovery. Marlene fears that if she travels to Cuba before three years have passed, she could face charges and lose custody of her son. Marlene says, “The restrictions make criminals out of people who just want to see their families.”
